7 1/2 More Months Until Winter in Tok Alaska

Kathy sends us more pictures and excerpts from her daily wranglings with Old Man Winter in Tok Alasaka.  Kathy writes……

Last night or ..er.. This morning when I came home from work.. It was snowing so the ground slate was clean when I drove up into my yard.. However there was ONE set of TRACKS going smack through the middle of my yard that looked familiarly familiar!!  MOOSE TRACKS!!!  :c)  (happy face) one one hand  :c( (frownface) on the other.. I missed SEEING it again and it walked RIGHT through the center of my yard!! ARRGH!!!  Sigh…. oh well.. Just one more bummer…

People see moose in THEIR yards every year and have to WORRY about them harming their dogs or their own bodies..me?  ME?!!  NOT ME!! I court danger JUST to be able to SEE a moose ANYWHERE let alone MY yard…. And then here THIS winter a moose has been fairly regularly going THROUGH the VERY front yard of my place and I’ve NEVER been ABLE To ‘SEE’ it… Argggh!!!

Life goes on even when Tok is in a deep freeze of -60º… Things need to be done and Journey puts his best foot fwd helping me around the place… Otter guides him from her seat above… A good place for  a female don’t you think? :)   hee hee…

I was out replacing the horses blanket with a dry warm one so I could bring
the other one in to dry out ..it was pretty Nippy out there..my cheeks were
starting to sting a little as I watched Sarah eat her yummy warmed up apple
and carrot treat.  Then I went over and brushed off some heavy snow that was
too much weight on the corral rails so before they broke from the weight I
wanted to take care of that right away… I don’t have replacement rails at
the moment especially for that particular section. They are LONG rails.
Anyhow. Then I took a picture of the Thermometer.  It is prit near -60º
but my thermometer is off by about 8º….. A friend tried to tell me to

acclimate this particular thermometer before putting it outside in the
extreme cold..but do you think I would listen ? Nooooooo..I was anxious to
get it up so I could be watching the temps right away… There is virtue to
patience and wisdom….. But I obviously didn’t apply them to myself here
..so now I have to judge it by the degree’s its off.

While Kathy, Journey and Otter are hard at work Fergs and Guinness enjoy it poolside in the southeast and I get in a little fishing. Hang in there Kat the grayling will be running soon.
