Tok Alaska

Kathy’s pictures from Tok, Alaska are truly inspiring and I enjoy sharing them on OSR.   So here are a few shots courtesy of Kathy.    You can find Tok, Alaska right where Highway 1 and Highway 2 intersect.  If you are traveling the highways in Alaska, eventually you will go thru Tok.

A good book about Alaska that will pull on all your emotions is called: The Final Frontiersman by James Campbell.  It is the story of the Korth family and how they lived for over 20 years out in the Alaskan bush and along the Coleen River. Here is just one of the many excerpts from the book that

I enjoyed. Campbell writes “Each afternoon, afters a day’s work, I’ve set off for the river, calling myself, much to Heimo’s amusement, a subsistence fisherman, in order to supply fresh, tasty grayling for our supper. Edna knows that there’s nothing that attracts a grizzly like the smell of fish. Though I wash up in an ice-cold pool downriver every evening, it is a pro forma precaution. Soap or no, I’m bear bait when I crawl into my bag at night.”
