Walk Amongst Tall Pines and Cypress

Tucked into the heart of Royal Palm Beach in Southeast Florida is Preservation Park, primarily a bike trail but also an excellent park to walk amongst tall pines, cypress and sable palms.  Newly dedicated this June, Preservation Park offers smooth walking paths with different degrees of difficulty for mountain biking.

Palmetto palms border the trails with occasional clusters of coco plum, wild native Florida coffee, myrsine, and live oak.

While we were walking today a large Great Horned Owl flew out of a sable palm and shattered the silence.   If you have never seen at Great Horned Owl up close I can best describe the impressive bird of prey as a fire hydrant with wings. The  photo of the Great Horned was taken at Busch Wildlife Sanctuary in Jupiter Florida.

The best part of the park is that it is accessible to kids without admission fees and without crossing heavy lanes of traffic.  An actual place were kids can escape the playstations and can get out to spend some time in nature like we did when we were younger.
